Bar-uan (meatball)

Bar-uan (meatball)

The legends are backward to 1898 in middle Taiwan, there happened a large catastrophic floods along Zhuo-shui River濁水溪 (the longest river in Taiwan) . While no foods available there and then, yet at Beidou北斗town, a man of letters-called Mr. Van at a temple providing service of writing and reading for people initiated to use dried sweet potato ground into flour and then kneaded-after into round shape stuffed with pork, dried bamboo shoots then cooked to victims. Since then it has gradually developed into today’s well-known Bar-uan (meatball)肉圓and spread to all parts of Taiwan in different materials and practices.
